A major credit card issuer has not been careful enough with the data of one and a half million customers. That is why the Dutch Data Protection Authority has fined the ICS company 150,000 euros.
Companies and organizations are often required to consider what privacy risks arise when they collect personal data. This also applies to International Card Services (ICS), when the company started digitally identifying customers in the Netherlands in 2019.
But according to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, ICS had not carried out such a risk analysis before the credit card company asked hundreds of thousands of customers for their names, contact details and a photo.
