On Monday, the president Luis Lacalle Pou gave himself the first dose of the Coronavac vaccine, within the framework of the national immunization campaign against COVID-19.
Soon after, the Chinese newspaper People’s Daily -the most popular in the country- published on the Twitter account of its English version the news of the vaccination of the Uruguayan president.
In the tweet, the newspaper detailed that it was the vaccine developed by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac.
The vaccine of Chinese origin is the most used in our country, and it is the one that will be inoculated to the vast majority of the population.
Less abundant, the doses of the Pfizer / BionTech vaccine are reserved for healthcare personnel and risk groups.
In the coming days, Uruguay would complement its pool of vaccines with doses of the vaccine developed by the British University of Oxford and the Swedish laboratory AztraSeneca, which would arrive within the framework of the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO).
