Banks rely primarily on the trust of their clients, from the point of view of being able to guarantee the safety of their deposited funds. If they couldn’t do that, they would be useless and nobody would save a penny in them. It’s that simple. Therefore, any situation negatively affecting clients’ funds is very problematic for them.
People were terrified
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to a very popular Czech bank. Although Fio Banka is not one of the three largest banks on the Czech market, it has managed to rise from a small bank to one of the larger ones, as evidenced by the billions in profit it generates every year. People also liked it because it offers free account management and very attractive financial products, including a savings account. Those who don’t want to go to big juggernauts still have a very pleasant alternative here.
Now, unfortunately, it has happened that money has disappeared from the account of Fio Banka clients. It often involved sums of many thousands, and moreover, it did not concern only a few of them, but a really large number. There are reports of tens of thousands of affected clients who lost money from their bank accounts over the weekend.
Fortunately, everything was resolved relatively quickly, although it still represents a great inconvenience for the bank. “People were blocked for double the amount of what they did on that one particular day,” said the bank’s spokesperson, referring to the fact that people who paid with a Visa payment card that day had double the amount of the transaction blocked. This could sometimes be really essential if you were paying tens of thousands of crowns for household equipment, for example.
There are problems
In addition, the bank’s statement is not entirely accurate. In fact, it actually happened that the Thursday transactions that were affected were posted over the weekend. So it was not about blocking the amount, but that it was actually deducted from the account twice. The bank then gradually began to cancel invalid transactions and return money to people’s accounts. This process should take several days.

However, this is not the only problem that Fio Banka is currently solving. Clients of her investment portal are complaining on social media that they were wrongly credited with dividends from their stock titles. At the same time, the bank was unable to resolve it even after several weeks.
