Traffic is very difficult this Tuesday evening on the A9 between Nîmes in Gard and Montpellier in Hérault, the highway is cut in both directions of traffic, that is to say towards Lyon and towards Montpellier/Barcelona . A major accident occurred late in the afternoon, on the eve of All Saints’ Day and while the school holidays were continuing.
A truck overturned between exits no. 26 Gallargues and no. 25 Nîmes-Ouest. For vehicles traveling towards Barcelona, it is strongly recommended to exit at Nîmes-est or Nimes-Ouest. In the direction of Lyon, the exit is obligatory at Gallargues-Aigues Mortes.

The following measures have been put in place for all vehicles since 6 p.m. to get around the difficulty, explains Vinci Autoroutes in a press release.
Towards Spain:
– Entry prohibited and exit obligatory at Nîmes-Est (n°24)
– Entry prohibited to Nîmes West (n°25)
On the A54 towards Nîmes
– Entry prohibited and exit obligatory at Nîmes-Centre (n°1)
On A9 towards Orange:
– Entry prohibited and exit obligatory at Gallargues (n°26)

The Vinci Autoroute teams advise against taking the A9 on this portion otherwise you will be completely blocked; it is preferable to stay on the secondary network when possible.
At 7:30 p.m., there were more than 12km of traffic jams heading to Barcelona. In the direction of Lyon, the first slowdowns were felt east of Montpellier, that is to say 15 kilometers away.

Traffic is completely interrupted in both directions, after a truck hit the pile of a bridge before crossing the central reservation to lie down on the other side, dumping its load on part of the road . The heavy goods vehicle was traveling towards Lyon. It was on these tracks that he lost his load, before sleeping on the other side of the central reservation, towards Barcelona.
The truck was transporting a load of industrial paint, said Vinci Autoroutes on Tuesday evening.
The Gard firefighters and the gendarmerie are on site to secure the scene. Vinci Autoroutes teams are also present to assess the damage. An inventory is underway, the operation promises to be long, warns the operator.

A heavy goods vehicle tow truck has already been dispatched by Vinci Autoroutes. He will only be able to intervene when the firefighters give their approval. At 8 p.m., the objective is to prevent the thousands of liters of paint and solvent that spilled on the road from flowing onto the shoulder.
