Major Accident in Death Valley Caused by Tarantula Crossing the Road

A tarantula crossing the road is believed to be involved in a major accident in Death Valley (Death Valley), in California.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred on October 28, allegedly began when a tarantula crossed the path of a caravan rented by a Swiss couple, on California Route 190.

Attempting a desperate maneuver to avoid crushing the spider, the driver of the caravan braked suddenly.

If the tarantula survived and escaped, a Canadian motorcyclist who was following the caravan was not so lucky and ran into the rear of it.

He was taken to a nearby hospital; his condition remains uncertain.

Following the accident, the United States National Park Service (NPS) recalled on his website the importance of being vigilant when crossing Death Valley at this time of year.

“Please drive slowly, especially on steep downhills in the park,” said Mike Reynolds, the first NPS employee at the scene of the accident. There are still patches of gravel on our roads due to flood damage. Also, wild animals of all sizes are present.”

Tarantulas spend most of their lives in underground burrows. However, they are seen more often in the fall, when males aged 8 to 10 years leave their burrows to look for a mate.
