The translator and journalist Majd Algafari decided to “tell the truth in the eyes of every Ukrainian in our country”. He did this through a post on his personal Facebook profile, but with the proviso that he hopes the social network will not block it.
Here is what he wrote (we publish his words without editorial intervention):
“Good evening, Ukrainians …
I hope that Facebook will not block me for this post, because it will tell the truth in everyone’s eyes.
This time I’m thinking of writing you a few lines, very friendly.
Do you realize that by your behavior in Bulgaria, you have ruined the respect of Bulgarians for your homeland? The protests that you staged in Bulgaria, which hosted you at its own expense, did not increase the fraternal feelings towards you, on the contrary, they are now many times worse than they were before Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
Your demands for your flag to be raised on the Sofia Municipality building did not provoke anything but hatred towards you. Is that what you wanted? Well, you did it. You yourself should have sent a letter to the Sofia municipal council, thanking him for the gesture, but asking him not to do so.
You did nothing to make the Bulgarian people love you.
Believe me, given my work as a manager and owner of a translation agency, I have many translators and friends – Ukrainians.
Your claims about your move from the seaside resorts to the interior of the country do you no honor. We – the Bulgarians, did everything to make you feel even better and more comfortable than you were in your homeland. Most of the Bulgarian citizens have not visited our native resorts for years, but you have been accepted even in the most luxurious hotels.
It was more important for you to have air conditioning, buffet, shops, discos, entertainment, restaurants, bars and all sorts of other pampering.
May I remind you that in Ukraine, before the special military operation, the refugees you received in your country from Syria, Iraq, North Africa, Iran, Afghanistan were accommodated in refugee centers, some of them even closed? They had no air conditioners, no tables with food, no pretensions, they sought shelter and protection from what was happening in their homeland.
Don’t you realize what you want? Something you have not offered to others who have been in the state you are in now.
Remember one thing, and not only you, what you have done in your life, you will get one day.
I hope that when you return to your homeland, after Russia and its victims have cleansed your country of … the same, Azov, Bandera and others, to provide refugees from other countries entering Ukraine, the same as you you claimed and received from the Bulgarians. They are people, just like you.
