Maja Dahlqvist’s Ski Breaks in Sprint Relay, Ends Sweden’s Team in 14th Place

Maja Dahlqvist was in second place in the second lap of the sprint relay, behind Linn Svahn.

Then disaster struck. Dahlqvist fell and took Laura Gimmler with her. But it didn’t end there, one of Dahlqvist’s skis broke in the fall and the Swede fell far behind.

It ended with a 14th place for Sweden’s team two.

– I don’t know what happened, it just stopped. I think I skied together and got stuck in the snow somehow. All of a sudden I lay down, I was up pretty quickly. But then the ski was off in the middle so it didn’t go very well, says Dahlqvist to SVT Sport.

How do you move on after something like that?

– It was a little out of breath. I asked Frida on the second leg: “What am I doing?”,. She said “drive just enough”.

Frida Karlsson:

– So we started making changes like this, says Frida Karlsson and shows off a joking pose.

When Maja Dahlqvist last competed in Lahtis, she secured victory in the World Cup Sprint Cup, but she has had a significantly worse season this year.

– What feels worst to me was that it was one of my best pairs of skis that broke, says Dahlqvist.
