La Maison Phoenix is launching its third major Vélo-don fundraising campaign, which will take place from July 29 to August 16, 2023. Two students from Val-David, Damien, 14, and Flavie, 12, with their father Alexandre Chouinard, president of Maison Phoenix, will continue their journey of 2021 and 2022 which led them from Val-David to Toronto.

The team will pedal this time for 450 km from Toronto (Niagara) to Detroit. Flavie and Damien want to help their grandmothers continue to live fully integrated in the Village of Val-David. “Everything will depend on the weather, but we believe we can get there in 6 or 7 days,” predicts Alexandre Chouinard.

Deepen the links

This year, the goal is to raise $10,000 to support the organization in carrying out its intergenerational activities organized in the region. All donations collected will be used to continue the rich intergenerational program that came to life in January 2022.

The intergenerational activities organization team, made up of Geneviève Beauchamp and Marie-Ève Bernard, has already organized more than 40 activities since 2022. These activities have forged links between more than 700 students and 500 Val-David seniors. In 2023, the organization also held activities that were very successful in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts.

Remember that the Phoenix House consists of a community residence project for seniors with loss of autonomy with an intergenerational component that will see the light of day in Val-David, thanks in particular to the support of the Municipality of Val-David.

Contribute

On the eve of their 3rd epic, Alexandre Chouinard is particularly proud of the involvement of his children in the adventure. “It’s fun to see children so enthusiastic about taking up the challenge. It’s different from school and everyday routine. In addition to experiencing moments that bring me closer to my children, it is a way of transmitting the importance of contributing to the happiness of others. It’s a project that values them a lot,” says Alexandre Chouinard. It is possible to follow the journey of the trio of cyclists in real time on the organization’s Facebook page or the Facebook event. The departure is scheduled for August 5 or 6.
