FSV Mainz 05 starts the upcoming Bundesliga season with a home game against runner-up RB Leipzig. This can be seen from the game plan that the German Football League published on Friday. “To start the new season with a home game is of course optimal. The longing is increasing, you are excited about the moment and are happy that things will start again soon,” said FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt.
One week after the start of the home on 14./15. August the Rheinhessen have to solve their first away task at the newly promoted VfL Bochum. On the second weekend in December, the 05er receive the German record champions Bayern Munich. The Rhein-Main-Derby against Eintracht Frankfurt forms the end of the round two. The season finale will take place on May 14, 2022. Schmidt hopes that the “emotional neighborhood duel with Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 34 in their own stadium in front of the fullest possible crowd” can take place.
