Mainz is the most dynamic German city

Mainz is the fastest developing city in Germany. This is the result of a study by IW Consult.

An important factor for the economic growth of the state capital is the success of the corona vaccine manufacturer BioNTech. The company pays significantly more trade taxes, said Hanno Kempermann from IW Consult, which commissioned the Internet portal Immoscout24 and the “Wirtschaftswoche” to carry out the study. “Mainz jumps from 48th place to 1st place due to the significantly increased municipal tax power.”

New biotech campus is being developed

The Rhineland-Palatinate capital, which for a long time had one of the highest per capita debts in Germany, ended the last financial year with a surplus of more than one billion euros. Citizens also benefit from this. The city invests in numerous projects in the areas of climate protection and mobility, sport and leisure, as well as youth and culture.

By the end of October, the city had already begun developing a new biotech campus. In a first step, the future streets were uncovered. Biotechnology companies are to settle on the 18-hectare site in the next few years.

Due to the trade tax of the corona vaccine manufacturer BioNTech, Mainz has a budget surplus of more than one billion euros. Everyone should now benefit from this.

Munich further ahead in terms of economic power, Mainz is catching up

Halle (Saale), Leverkusen, Oldenburg and Darmstadt are among the ten most dynamic cities in Germany for the first time this year. They displaced Heilbronn, Lübeck, Kiel, Munich and Potsdam. The Bavarian state capital slipped to 30th place.

In terms of economic power, which is measured in the so-called level ranking, Munich still dominates. Mainz moved up nine places compared to last year and made it into the top 10. “Experience shows that cities that do well in the dynamic ranking also rise in the level ranking with a slight time lag,” said Gesa Crockford, Managing Director of Immoscout24.
