Mainz companies have to pay more taxes again

The city council of Mainz decided on Wednesday to increase the rate of the trade tax again to 440 points at the beginning of 2025. This has been announced by the city of Mainz.

The evaluation level was reduced from 440 to 310 points from 2022 due to a high budget surplus caused by the increase of Biontech. Mayor Nino Haase (independent) now explains: “Increasing the trade tax to the old level was not something we took lightly, but it is inevitable in a situation that ‘ budget now.”

The Mainz companies benefited from this tax relief for three years, which was “a very successful way to secure and strengthen the business situation” during and immediately after the corona pandemic. The new assessment rate is still well below the average for comparable cities in Germany.
