Maintenance and Modernization Work on Railway Network in Paca Region: Impact on Train Services

SNCF Réseau is currently carrying out maintenance and modernization work on the railway network in the Paca region. We detail the trains that will be impacted, starting with that of November 11. There will be no trains between Nice and Antibes and major disruptions between Antibes and Marseille.

Be careful if you plan to travel by train during this weekend and until the end of November. Several TER trains will be modified, replaced or deleted following work on the region’s rail infrastructure.

In a press release, SNCF Réseau speaks of “ three major operations the first two weekends of November, in Marseille and Pas-des-Lanciers in Bouches-du-Rhône as well as in Cagnes-sur-Mer in the Alpes-Maritimes “. A final project will take place on November 25 in the town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

SNCF Voyageurs has detailed all the repercussions on rail traffic during these work periods. Here is what this will change according to the lines:

Friday November 10, 11:50 p.m., to Monday 13, 4:50 a.m.

At Marseille Saint-Charles station, four other switches will be replaced. Furthermore, at Pas-de-Lanciers station, ” the remote control work on the signal box will undergo a new stage before commissioning scheduled for March 2024; they require the interruption of rail traffic between Marseille and Miramas“.

On the Cagnes-sur-Mer side, four switches will also be renewed.

Marseille / Aubagne / Toulon / Hyères / Les Arcs / Nice line:

  • The Marseille-Saint-Charles station will not be served by any TER. The Marseille-Blancarde station (around 10 minutes away by the M1 metro) will therefore be the first or last train service.
  • The TER Interville between Marseille and Nice are canceled.

Marseille / Aix / Pertuis / Gap / Briançon line:

  • On Sunday, certain trains (Pertuis / Aix / Marseille and Briançon / Gap / Aix / Marseille) will have their terminus at Marseille-Blancarde station.

Marseille / Miramas / Avignon / Lyon line:

  • No rail traffic between Marseille and Miramas via Rognac and via Martigues (Côte Bleue). Replacement buses are put in place.
  • Several train timetables will be modified and some will be replaced by coaches. Details can be viewed on the SNCF website.

Grasse / Ventimiglia line:

  • No rail traffic between Antibes and Nice. Coaches will provide the connection between the Antibes bus station and Nice-Ville train station. Trains nevertheless run between Grasse and Antibes and between Nice and Ventimiglia (Italy).
  • Some schedules are modified. The details can be viewed here.

Friday November 24, 10 p.m., to Sunday 26, 8 a.m.

It is the deck of a rail bridge, which dates back a century, which will be renewed.

Grasse / Ventimiglia line:

  • No rail traffic between Monaco and Ventimiglia. SNCF Voyageurs returns to bus lines 608 Menton-Monaco and 601 Nice-Monaco-Menton to cover this distance.
  • Some schedules could also be modified.

Concerning long distance relationships (Inoui and Ouigo), SNCF Réseau indicates that ” one in two TGVs will run on average in the region” during the first two weekends of November.

As for Intercité night trains, the ” Paris – Briançon will be replaced by bus on Friday November 10 in the Briançon – Paris direction and on Saturday November 11 in the Paris – Briançon direction (works also being carried out in the Île-de-France region)“and those linking Paris and Nice” will not run on the nights of November 10, 11 and 12“.

Between Bordeaux and Marseille, ” 70% of trains on average will run from November 3 to 5 and 40% of trains on average from November 10 to 12“. Moreover, ” replacement coaches are put in place between Toulouse and Marseille.
