Children’s teeth are in a constant state of growth and development, and maintaining the health of their teeth is important to avoid complications in the teeth, which include caries and cavities, and may reach gingivitis.

Dr. Shorouq Bassem, a dental consultant, confirmed that the sugars and acids found in foods can easily erode the enamel and create an environment for the growth of harmful bacteria, which leads to tooth decay and even gum disease, thus it is essential to establish good eating habits early on to lay the foundation for strong oral health throughout their lives.

And she indicated in a statement to “The Seventh Day” that there are some things that should not be eaten frequently by children to preserve the integrity of his teeth.

1. Desserts:

Candy, chocolate, sugary cereals and snacks are among your child’s favorite foods.

2. Sugary drinks:

Fruit juices, soft drinks, and even some fruit-flavored waters contain high amounts of sugar, which can damage your teeth.

3. Citrus fruits:

Oranges, lemons and grapefruits can weaken enamel over time, so encourage your children to rinse their mouths with water after eating citrus fruits and to wait at least 30 minutes before brushing to prevent enamel erosion.

4. Dried Fruits:

Although they look healthy, dried fruits are concentrated sources of sugars that can stick to the teeth. They can be a better alternative to sugary snacks, but they should be eaten in moderation followed by water or brushing.

5. Chewy Candy:

Like jelly and gummy candies, not only are they full of sugars, they also tend to stick in the crevices of the teeth, and this allows the sugars to stay for longer and increases the risk of tooth decay.
