Mainfranken: Decreased demand for pets ensures… | Radio Gong Wuerzburg

Nice weather, vacation time and hardly any corona restrictions – fewer and fewer people in Mainfranken are currently getting a pet from the animal shelter. While the demand was particularly high during the lockdown period, some gave up their animals again – and the willingness to donate is also decreasing.

The rescue stations in the region are therefore increasingly reaching their limits. Around 100 dogs, cats and small animals are currently housed in the largest animal shelter in Würzburg. The operators assume that people would rather save or go on vacation. And therefore have neither time nor money for pets.

The situation at the animal shelter in Kitzingen is similar. In addition, some dogs and cats from the Ukraine were accommodated in Main-Spessart. There are currently over 50 animals living in Lohr – 15 were recently adopted.

Animal shelters across Bavaria are also complaining about smuggled dogs and many animals that are simply handed in after Corona. Dogs that were not able to attend dog school during the pandemic are a particular problem.
