The Corona summer wave has the region firmly in its grip. The infection rate is still at a high level throughout Mainfranken. In the city of Würzburg, the incidence on Tuesday was around 800, in the district almost 700. The situation is similar in the Kitzingen and Main-Spessart districts: the Robert Koch Institute reports a value of 850 and 750 respectively.
Who is infected with Corona?
Im District of Wuerzburg it is currently affecting the children. The incidence in 5 to 14 year olds is as high as 1,011.
Also in the City of Wuerzburg it is currently younger people in particular who are becoming infected. To be more precise: the 15 to 34 year olds. In this age group, the incidence is also over 1,000.
Im Main-Spessart district there is no particularly affected age group. Here the cases are divided among the younger and the under 60 year olds. That’s also in district of Kitzingen

A closer look at Würzburg
There are significantly more corona cases here again. Within a week, around 2,400 people in the city and district were infected – for comparison: at the end of May, the number of new infections per week in the Würzburg region was almost 600.
As in the previous weeks, most of the new cases were in the Würzburg district. A total of almost 1,300 district residents were infected. Veitshöchheim is the leader with over 100 new infections, followed by Höchberg (+82) and Ochsenfurt (+81).
In the urban area, the people of Würzburg were infected with Corona, especially in the Frauenland and Sanderau districts.
Hospitalization rate more meaningful
According to the health department, the incidence value is no longer the decisive criterion, since significantly fewer tests are carried out due to the abolition of the test obligation. The hospitalization rate is much more important because it represents the burden on hospitals with Covid patients.
