Mohamed R., one of the main suspects in the Marengo liquidation process, says on Thursday that he has an alibi for the night of the murder of Ranko Scekic in Utrecht. His lawyer Nico Meijering has handed over a printout from a gym in Utrecht which would show that R. was exercising that evening in June 2016.
This became clear during the witness examination of crown witness Nabil B. in the court of Amsterdam by the counsel of R., Nico Meijering and Christian Flokstra.
One of the murders that R. is also accused of is that on Ranko Scekic on June 22, 2016. B. has known that he played a role in that liquidation and says, among other things, that he, together with R., was the victim on the day of the murder. Then he would have destroyed the used weapons together with R.
R. strongly denies this and, through his lawyer Meijering, handed over a form to the court showing that the suspect’s sports card was checked in at 8:50 pm. Scekic was killed an hour later.
This information was also new to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), which asked Meijering for an explanation during Thursday’s session so that this alibi can be checked. The lawyer says he will send an email about this.
B. responded to R.’s claim by saying he knew the gym, but that R.’s story is absolutely wrong.
Crown witness: I lied on the phone for security reasons
Earlier Thursday, the crown witness was heard about his statements and why he lied for a while about an iPhone 5 that he had in his cell. B. said he lied for security reasons without specifying.
The case continues on January 13 with another preliminary hearing. The case is part of the Marengo liquidation process, in which seventeen suspects are on trial for various murders and attempted murder.
Mohamed R. is the brother of Saïd R. Together with Ridouan T., Saïd is the biggest name in the Marengo case. The two are suspected by the Public Prosecution Service of leading a criminal organization. Both T. and Saïd R. had been on the run from justice for some time, but they were eventually arrested in Dubai and Colombia respectively.
