Large police presence in Graz! All police patrols are currently deployed at the main train station and Ostbahnhof. The reason: A police operation is currently underway at Graz main train station following a threat with reference to possible explosive devices. “Emergency forces cordon off the area over a large area,” the police announced on Monday evening. Searches are already underway.

Police ask: “Avoid the area”

The population is currently asked to avoid the area. The waiting hall and platforms were temporarily closed. Train services will be suspended until further notice. “Keep calm and follow the instructions of the emergency services,” said the emergency services

Ostbahnhof also affected

As a precautionary measure, police cordoning off measures are currently being taken at the Ostbahnhof in Graz. The affected areas are being searched by explosives experts. Search dogs are also used for this purpose. The police ask: “Here too, follow the instructions of the emergency services on site.”

Train and bus services suspended

Due to the deployment, no access is possible between Graz Main Station and Graz Ostbahnhof. According to current information, the closure will last until around 9:30 p.m. and be extended if necessary. Graz bus traffic is also affected. “Due to a bomb threat, the bus station at the main train station has been closed by police. All bus lines that go to the main train station are affected,” said Holding Graz. Specifically affected are bus lines 52, 53, 58, 62 and 63. Coming from the city, lines 58 and 63 turn around at Lendplatz. The Lendplatz – Central Station branch cannot currently be served. Line 53 also only runs from Stattegg to Lendplatz. Lines 62 and 52 currently remain on Annenstrasse and Zollgasse near the train station.

Threat came via email

As media reports, the threat is said to have come to the police via email. It said that explosive devices would go off at the train station. All necessary measures were taken immediately. The operation is still ongoing.

Update 9 p.m.: The closure at Ostbahnhof has been lifted

The police are currently working at full speed, and numerous officers are still on duty in Graz. Now there is the first all-clear. “The blockade at Ostbahnhof in Graz was lifted,” the police said shortly before 9 p.m. No suspicious items were found. Attention: The searches at the main train station are still ongoing. The ban will remain in place here until further notice.
