The corona numbers in Main-Spessart exceeded two sad thresholds on Wednesday: The number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic in the district has now exceeded 1000. At the same time, the State Office for Public Health reports a seven-day incidence of over 200 for the first time. This means the number of new cases in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants in Main-Spessart. The Corona traffic light will then glow purple. The District Office has announced a press conference on the current Corona situation in Main-Spessart for Thursday afternoon, at which District Administrator Sabine Sitter wants to provide information.
Main-Spessart has an incidence value of 214. In Lower Franconia, only the Haßberge district currently has a higher value (263.08). The Rhön-Grabfeld district (208.45) and the city of Schweinfurt (211.51) have similar values.
In addition, the district office reported three new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday. 340 people are currently infected in Main-Spessart. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1003 people who have tested positive (previous day: 942). Of these, 642 have now recovered and 21 have died. 23 people are currently being treated as inpatients at the Main-Spessart Clinic. There are 1,051 close contacts of corona-positives in quarantine at home.
New cases in the health center
Seven patients at the dialysis center in Karlstadt tested positive for the virus and are in quarantine. At the Main-Spessart health center in Gemünden, 26 of a total of 112 residents are currently tested positive, some of them without symptoms. In 15 of these people, however, there was only one positive rapid antigen test that was carried out in-house. “Unfortunately, not all general practitioners are ready to come to the house for a PCR test,” says the institution’s spokeswoman, Helena Sobotta. As a rule, the result of the antigen test must be checked with such a PCR test.
The demand for series tests is “currently so great that there are delays,” said Sobotta. The standby service of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Bavaria (KVB) is not equipped for a large number of tests. A total of five residents of the health center died with or from Corona; Eleven residents have now recovered.
There are currently ten Covid 19 diseases among the approximately 110 employees, four of which are only determined by antigen test. Six employees have already recovered. Three living areas of the health center in Gemünden are currently under quarantine, whereby in one of these areas no resident or employee is currently affected.
General practitioners remain responsible for their patients
Dr. Christian Pfeiffer, Chief Executive Officer of KVB Unterfranken, explains: “Basically, patients still have to be cared for by their general practitioners.” The antigen tests would have a certain error rate and would therefore have to be checked with PCR tests. But if 15 patients have to be tested, the family doctors could agree. “You don’t have to have five or six different doctors in the same home. In the city and district of Würzburg we solved it in such a way that two doctors in protective clothing went to a home and took swabs there. Or the district office organized a series of tests. ” He can understand that due to the high incidence in Main-Spessart there could be delays in series tests at the moment.
The KVB standby service is not responsible for series tests. “They won’t have 20 tests in the vehicle, but maybe five,” said Pfeiffer. But he will contact Dr. Matthias Schmidt from Burgsinn, KVB coordinator for Main-Spessart, provide more information. Dr. Schmidt could not be reached in his practice on Wednesday afternoon.
Own test track for Wohnstift Andreas Bodenstein
Currently, only a few senior citizen facilities in Main-Spessart are corona-free. The heads of the homes concerned kept a low profile when asked by the editorial team about the current situation. The manager of the beneficiary hospital in Arnstein, Sanela Jonjic, asks for understanding that she cannot give any figures: “That changes constantly, we test continuously.” She couldn’t say more in the current situation.
Last week, the district office reported four corona infections from the Julius-Echter-Seniorenstift in Hafenlohr, and 25 more cases became known on Monday after a series of tests. The home administration did not want to provide any information at the request of this editorial office on Tuesday. A Karlstadt home was particularly hard hit: on Tuesday, the district office announced that 40 people had tested positive in the Otto and Anna Herold Foundation.
In the Andreas Bodenstein residential monastery in Karlstadter Bodelschwinghstraße there was a test track for all residents and employees on Wednesday “to get clarity”, reports director Daniela Weyerich. She expects the results at the beginning of next week. Last week, six corona cases were reported in the residential pen.
