Extensive timetable changes will come into effect on the Main-Spessart-Bahn from Tuesday, September 12th. The reason is construction work between the Gemünden and Retzbach-Zellingen stations, which is why only one track is available here in sections.

Among other things, the signaling system will be fundamentally renewed so that traffic on this busy route can roll more smoothly and be less prone to delays.

Passenger traffic between Gemünden and Würzburg will have to be restricted during the construction period, which is expected to last until December 9th. Therefore, the trains of the Main-Spessart-Express are canceled between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. You will be diverted from Lohr via the Nantenbach curve and the ICE line. As a result, they arrive in Würzburg up to 15 minutes earlier. Conversely, they leave there in the direction of Frankfurt 10 to 15 minutes later.

Shuttle trains stopping in Langenprozelten make the connection between Lohr and Gemünden, albeit with waiting times of up to 20 minutes in Lohr. In Gemünden, these shuttle trains have a connection to the regional trains that still operate to and from Würzburg. In this way, for example, Karlstadt can still be reached from Aschaffenburg, albeit with two changes in Lohr and Gemünden.

In the morning rush hour to Würzburg, instead of the Regional Express, which starts at 5.55 a.m., a regional train runs from Lohr at 5.45 a.m. and stops everywhere. The regional train at 7.27 a.m. from Lohr is no longer available, but a regional train coming from Aschaffenburg and stopping everywhere departs there at 7.12 a.m., which in turn replaces a regional express.

After 8 a.m., hourly regional trains run between Gemünden and Würzburg according to the previous timetable. In the opposite direction, they also run hourly, but always at minute 53 from Würzburg, i.e. eight minutes earlier. The booster trains used between Würzburg and Karlstadt in the morning and afternoon rush hour will no longer be used and will be replaced by buses, according to Deutsche Bahn.

The regular timetable continues to apply on the Sinntalbahn and the Saaletalbahn. There will be no changes in long-distance traffic for the time being. However, from October 3rd to 11th and from October 20th to November 6th, due to construction work, timetable changes must also be expected for the ICE trains running between Frankfurt and Würzburg. All timetable changes have already been incorporated into the DB Navigator and the electronic timetable information.
