The people in the Main-Spessart area can ask their questions about the search for a nuclear waste repository on Wednesday. In the afternoon there will be an online consultation for your region. It will be streamed on Youtube from 5pm. Experts from the Federal Agency for Final Storage provide information and answer questions for around an hour. These can be provided via live chat, email or by phone. Next week it will be the turn of the online consultation hour for the Würzburg area – it had to be postponed due to a corona case. The Federal Agency for Final Storage, BGE for short, has published around 90 potential areas across Germany in an interim report. At the moment it is only a question of whether the soil is suitable for the nuclear waste repository. Surprisingly, this is no longer the case with the salt dome in Gorleben in Lower Saxony. But it was assumed for decades. The location should be fixed by 2031 – the warehouse should go into operation in 2050 and be safe for at least a million years.
