At this year’s international children’s film festival “Schlingel”, the European Children’s Film Prize, endowed with 12,500 euros, goes to director Olivier Pairoux in Belgium. The organizers announced this on Saturday in Chemnitz. In the film “SpaceBoy” the idiosyncratic and somewhat crazy Jim builds a hot air balloon together with Emma for a school competition. They want to prove that anything is possible if you believe in yourself. However, it is not only Emma’s fragile health that puts the project to the test.
A film from Bangladesh with the title “Rickshaw Girl” then won the main prize of the Saxon State Media Authority. In order to earn money for her family, the girl Naima pretends to be a boy and becomes a rickshaw driver. Prizes for the best animated film as well as audience prizes and prizes from the children’s and youth jury were also awarded.
A total of 77 feature films and 116 short films were in the competition. The winners were decided by specialist and children’s juries. The “Schlingel” sees itself as an international film festival for children and young audiences. According to the organizers on Saturday, around 17,000 visitors came to the 26th edition of the children’s film festival this year.
