Since the ferry between Maintal-Dörnigheim and Mühlheim was shut down, the route across the Main has become much longer and more complicated for many people. The two CDU district council members Srita Heide (Hanau) and Erhard Rohrbach (Maintal) dealt with this topic, according to a press release.

Maintal – Both are running again for the district council and know, according to their own statements, that this is a project that is particularly affecting their hometowns. “We demand the swift implementation of the feasibility study, which was agreed between Hanau, the Main-Kinzig district, Maintal, Mühlheim and Offenbach under the leadership of the planning association,” emphasizes Erhard Rohrbach, Maintal’s former mayor, in the press release.

He explains that the ferry from Maintal-Bischofsheim to Rumpenheim is operated on a private basis without government subsidies. Since there is currently no successor in the family business, the future of this ferry company is also uncertain.

Environmental pollution should be avoided

Srita Heide adds that without the ferry at Bischofsheim between Steinheim and the Carl-Ullrich-Brücke in Offenbach there will be no connection across the Main. “The footpath over the lock cannot be included, because it is not barrier-free and very tedious for cyclists,” says the message.

For Heide and Rohrbach, it is important that the study clarifies openly whether a bridge makes sense and helps to shorten the traffic routes without generating additional traffic. Pollution of the environment should also be avoided.

“In the opinion of Erhard Rohrbach and Srita Heide, due to the residential development on both sides of the Main, the area east of the lock is at best possible,” it concludes
