Despite state aid, many clinics across Bavaria are facing financial problems. This is shown by a survey by the Bavarian Hospital Society. According to this, around 60 percent of hospitals expect economic losses in 2021. The financial situation is different at the main Franconian clinics. The hospitals in the region confirmed this at the request of this editor.
Würzburg
Both the Würzburg University Hospital and the Klinikum Würzburg Mitte (KWM) are again expecting a balanced result for 2021. This is mainly due to the compensation payments for pandemic-related absences, according to the hospitals. In addition, despite Corona, many beds were occupied.
Main-Spessart
Meanwhile, the compensation payments do not cover the loss of income at the Main-Spessart Clinic in any way. Because of Corona, many intensive care beds had to be kept free. That is why the clinic lost around a fifth of its inpatient cases last year, according to the clinic. In addition, there are always staff shortages, so that even fewer beds can be occupied.
Even before the Corona crisis, the Main-Spessart Clinic was recording annual losses in the millions.
Kitzingen
In addition, the operations at the Kitzinger Land Clinic that were postponed due to Corona were partially compensated financially by the rescue package. However, whether the payments are sufficient to close the year without a minus cannot yet be answered conclusively, according to the Kitzinger Land clinic.
