Main Franconia: military aircraft with… | Radio Gong Wuerzburg

Military planes have been flying over the region for the past two days. It was a Bundeswehr exercise: parachutists had practiced the automatic jump.

The two aircraft – an A400M and an M28 – took off from the airfield in Giebelstadt. The destination: Gemünden-Adelsberg in the Main-Spessart district. There the soldiers jumped off.

The two machines were traveling relatively slowly and low – just about 400 meters above sea level. According to the Bundeswehr, this is due to the technical specifications of the parachutes.

During the automatic jump, the skydivers are attached to the aircraft with a leash. The parachute is deployed when you jump. The line then automatically pulls the parachute out of the jump luggage.

Next exercise in mid-May

The next such exercise is to take place in the middle of the month – scheduled for May 17th and 18th, according to the Bundeswehr.
