Worked for a long time and then a small pension. The number of people at risk of poverty in old age is also increasing in our region. That is why the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) calls for a good and strong statutory pension for the Mainfranken.
The people in the region who drew a pension for the first time in 2021 came to an average of 1,030 euros. For comparison: the threshold for poverty in old age in Bavaria is 1,236 euros.
Statistically speaking, women are particularly affected. While men in the region receive an average of around 1,247 euros, women’s pensions are far lower. And at an average of 812 euros.
The difference is clearest in the district of Main-Spessart. There, the pension for men is the highest at an average of 1,385 euros – at the same time, women get the least here, namely 772 euros.
The DGB sees a need for action in terms of pensions. Further cuts in benefits and the increase in the retirement age to 70 years – as demanded by economists and employer lobbyists – cannot be made with the union.
That is why the DGB wants to make strong pensions the central issue in the state elections. The pension system must be changed to prevent poverty in old age and to level the gender gap in pensions.
