Main ferry auctioned on ebay – FFH.de

The former Main ferry between Mühlheim and Dörnigheim will probably get a new owner. After the deadline for an auction on an online platform, the highest bid in the afternoon was 6850 euros. In total there were 59 offers from 24 bidders within one week. The vehicle currently lying in the Frankfurt Osthafen was offered for sale by the Offenbach district under “Wagenseilfähre – Ferry ship built in 1963 – ready to drive, without a valid ferry certificate”. According to the district, the new owner now has to pick up and transport the ferry himself.

No new operator found

The county council sealed the final end for the ferry connection across the Main in June. After operations had been idle since autumn 2017, a guide rope on the ferry tore after a few hours on the first day the connection was resumed in early July last year. The group agreed with the operator to terminate the contract in order to prevent months of legal dispute. A new operator was not found.

Criticism from the taxpayers’ association

The taxpayers’ association had criticized the district for the ferry because it held onto it for too long, although there are alternatives. The ship was repaired in 2017 after its decommissioning for 117,000 euros.
