In Latvia, it is not possible to deliver mail to more than 150 thousand addresses, because the owners have not taken care of the installation of the mailbox or they are so broken that the postmen will not dare to leave the items in them. Latvian postmen, in the performance of their duties, face this problem every day. Therefore, “Latvijas pasts” invites residents to organize their mailboxes

Ilze Biedriņa works as a postman in one of the districts of Riga. She has to deliver hundreds of customers every day. However, some of the customers are special – due to broken or unwritten mailboxes, mail delivery requires a lot of skill.

Gundega Vārpa, a representative of SJSC Latvijas pasts, said that there are more than a million addresses in the company’s address register, of which more than 151,000 mailboxes do not exist at all or are damaged. “Respectively, those where the safe insertion of correspondence is risky. Shipments can be lost, they can be accessed by third parties, ”explained Vārpa.

In such cases, the postman will not leave the item in the damaged mailbox. “I bring it back to the post office and then write a call for him to pick up the relevant things,” said Postmaster Biedriņa.

Vārpa admitted that the post office in such cases faces great dissatisfaction of the people, if the postman, unable to leave the parcel in the mailbox, did not deliver it to the apartment.

“But such items must be delivered to the mailbox. It is paid for the postman to deliver to the mailbox, not, for example, to climb to the 5th floor and deliver by hand. This is another level of service. Delivery of the consignment at the place of residence and return in hand costs a completely different price, ”Vārpa emphasized.

Latvijas pasts asks households and legal entities to organize their mailboxes. When choosing a mailbox, you should also consider that it is installed in a place that is easily accessible to the postman and that it is large enough – so that not only letters but also magazines can be placed in it.
