Bobsleigh pilot Benjamin Maier also demonstrated his consistency at the World Cup in Altenberg on Sunday. After finishing fourth, five, two, six and three in the season, Maier and his crew with Danut Moldovan, Markus Sammer and Kristian Huber finished fourth in the four-man bobsleigh. They missed the podium by 4/100 seconds. The victory went to the German Francesco Friedrich, who had already triumphed in two the day before.
For Friedrich, who clearly leads the World Cup ranking with 1,350 points, it was the 62nd World Cup victory. Maier fell one place back from third place in the second run. The Tyrolean is in third place overall (1,154 points). Austria’s second sled with Markus Treichl, Markus Glück, Sebastian Mitterer and Robert Eckschlager finished tenth (+1.17), as in the previous week in Winterberg.
In the women in two category, Katrin Beierl had a hard time with Jennifer Onasanya and once again did not make it into the top ten in 13th place. The gap to the German winner Kim Kalicki was 1.50 seconds, second place went to her compatriot Mariama Jamanka. Third went to the two-time Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries from the USA, who won in Altenberg two weeks ago.
