Pilar, 75, lived alone in her home in Leganés, Spain. In March of this year, the elderly woman died, allegedly of coronavirus. The victim was cremated without family consent by Rosa, the 33-year-old Peruvian employee who now occupies the victim’s home, according to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
The maid cremated the elderly woman’s body without the consent of her daughters, who were not even informed of the mother’s death.
“I would like to know what happened to my mother. At that time I also had coronavirus and I was hospitalized for 30 days. When we learned of the death, I had already been cremated,” one of the daughters, Rosana, recalled to the Spanish newspaper.
Rosa started to accompany the elderly woman in mid-February this year, taking two-hour shifts. The maid, who worked from Monday to Friday, discovered the elderly woman was already dead on a Saturday, “but she didn’t call 112”.
Pilar kept in touch with her mother, even when she had to be hospitalized. It was at that time that she was informed of her mother’s death. “We don’t know what happened because the death record indicates that, in principle, he died of coronavirus”.
The daughter assured that the maid signed electricity and water contracts for the house ten days before Pilar’s death and through a supposed power of attorney signed by the septuagenarian.
“My mother was very suspicious, I can’t believe she was able to sign that power of attorney. My mother didn’t even give her the house keys when she hired her. We don’t know how she had the house keys and why found dead, “said Rosana.
The daughter ended up hiring a company, Desokupa – which specializes in home occupation lawsuits – to recover housing. Rosa now hopes that justice will be done by convicting the employee to several crimes, among them “homicide, theft, misappropriation of space, usurpation of documents and fraud”.
The Peruvian has already been heard by the Spanish police, who are now investigating the case, as well as those responsible for the funeral home who proceeded to cremation without authorization from the family. The first findings indicate that the maid informed the funeral home that Pilar had no family and submitted the authorization for cremation.
The funeral home official confirmed the service, adding that he had received all the necessary documents to proceed with the process.
Rosa guarantees that she will do “everything to clarify what happened”.
