Qualified in the Champions League final for the first time in his career, Riyad Mahrez won the place of Algerian top scorer in the history of the competition thanks to his double scored yesterday at the Etihad Stadium.
Decisive on the two meetings against PSG, the captain of the Greens continues to register his legend with the SkyBlues by showing himself involved in six of the twelve goals scored by Manchester City during this final phase of the Champions League. Author of four goals and two assists since the eighth-final second leg against Monchengladbach, Riyad Mahrez is now the top Algerian scorer in the history of the Champions League since the creation of this format in the 1992/1993 season.
The native of Sarcelles has scored ten goals in thirty-three games played, during the direct phase of the Champions League, in four participations under the colors of Leicester and Manchester City. A meeting between the African champion and the C1 which took place during the 2016/2017 season, where Mahrez distinguished himself with four goals in nine games played (Editor’s note: all registered in the group stages against Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen) under the colors of Foxes then eliminated in the quarter-finals by Atletico de Madrid.

Under the colors of the SkyBlues, Mahrez scored two goals in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 editions in the group stages against a single opponent, Shakhtar Donetsk. In the ranking of the Algerian top scorers, Mahrez thus exceeds former FC Porto player Yacine Brahimi, who scored eight goals in four appearances with the Dragões.
