Mahmoud Mohieldin reveals list of countries committed to their climate change commitments

Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin, the climate pioneer for Egypt’s chairmanship of the 27th Conference of the Parties in Sharm El-Sheikh, revealed the names of countries that have pledged to meet their climate pledges by providing the finance needed to support poor countries , especially France , Germany, the Netherlands, Japan and a number of Scandinavian countries, stressing at a press conference: today, the rest of the major countries have not fulfilled their commitments to support poor countries.

On the mechanism of dealing with these countries, he indicated that this is the role of the media and parliaments in the countries and civil society organizations, which can put pressure on those countries to fulfill their obligations.

He explained that censorship is different and varies from country to country, including companies or banks, explaining that one of the world’s largest banks in Britain was prevented from running a specific ad, as they considered it a misleading ad, and this it is a model similar to greenwashing, in the sense that the funding sources are not green and do not deal with green mechanisms.

He pointed out that universities have engaged in the green trend by changing their curricula to adjust to global changes.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin touched on several important initiatives launched by Egypt during the climate summit, including the national initiative for smart green projects, which includes 6 categories, as well as coordination with UN economic groups in the rest of the projects submitted by 80 countries with around 450 projects, highlighting the importance of deleveraging for poor countries and linking it to climate action with investment in Africa’s carbon market and striving to raise $130 trillion for this market.

He stressed that 600 million out of 800 million Africans do not have electricity, primarily during the day, despite its extreme importance in our lives, because we cannot do without it even for minutes, while Africa is responsible for only 3% of emissions, yet it is severely affected and needs to be sustained in the coming period.
