Mahfud: The government cannot be overthrown by the reason of Covid

The government knows there are pure and impure groups in conveying aspirations.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, agreed with President Joko Widodo’s opinion that it could not be imposed on the grounds of handling Covid-19 by the government. Because, he said, in that case there was no violation of the law.

“Similarly, the government also has the belief that the current government, God willing, cannot be brought down because of the Covid-19 reason, because no law violations have been committed. And it turns out that NU also holds this view,” Mahfud said in a press release, Tuesday (27/7). ).

He said this when responding to a statement by the General Chair of PBNU, KH Said Aqil Siradj, who discussed the emergence of provocations on social media that organized demonstrations against Jokowi’s leadership. He said Jokowi could not be overthrown for reasons of handling Covid 19. The reason was that Jokowi had not violated the law.

“We NU residents have had a very bitter experience, when we had President Gus Dur, he was removed in the middle of the road without clear violations of the law,” said Said Aqil.

He stated that NU residents would not overthrow the government in the middle of the road without clear violations of the law. According to him, the ousting of Gus Dur, which occurred after the reformation, became a very bitter note for NU residents. Therefore, it is impossible for NU residents to do the same.

“It is impossible for NU residents to do that. That is a lesson for us. We will not do that, unless there are clear violations of Pancasila and so on,” he said.

Said Aqil said that now political movements have begun to emerge whose targets are to disrupt the sustainability of Jokowi’s government and his ministers. These movements were carried out even though the parties knew that the Indonesian government system was presidential, not parliamentary, so it was difficult for them to shake it.

“Actually, they know that it is not easy because we have a presidential system, not a parliamentary system, but at least they make it difficult for their programs to fail,” he said.

Also in the dialogue, Said Aqil highlighted the corruption case of Covid-19 social assistance that had hit one of the ministers President Jokowi some time ago. He considered that this had to be acknowledged as having an impact on the fading of public trust in the government.

“How heavy is the burden on the government, I understand, I know, but how painful the people are when Bansos is corrupted. When a Minister has the heart to corrupt Bansos in this epidemic, masyaallah this is a very painful slap,” said Said Aqil.

In a pandemic situation Covid 19 At this time, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs invited all religious leaders and religious organizations, especially PBNU, to jointly raise awareness for the people. That, covid is real and needs to be faced by implementing strict health protocols, and following vaccinations.

“Alhamdulillah, PBNU has formed a Covid Task Force, intellectuals have spoken and taken part. Later we will strengthen this. We will try to achieve herd immunity so that it reaches 70 percent. Let’s count together. We have recorded the proposals,” said Mahfud MD .

Present in this virtual dialogue, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD was accompanied by all echelon officials namely deputies, expert staff and special staff. Meanwhile, the chairman of the PBNU was accompanied by Secretary General Helmy Faishal and the chairman of PBNU, Robikin Emhas.

Previously, Mahfud had stated that the government knew there were pure and impure groups in conveying aspirations regarding the handling of Covid-19. The impure groups, he said, only want to take advantage of the situation and continue to attack the government’s decisions.

“There were groups that were pure earlier, then there were groups that were not pure. The problem is that they only want to oppose, take advantage of the situation. Whatever the government decides to be attacked,” Mahfud said at a press conference after holding a meeting with nine ministry institutions related to the situation in handling Covid-19 in Indonesia. office, Central Jakarta, Saturday (24/7).

Mahfud said the government was aware of a group of people who had the desire to take advantage of the current situation. The government, he said, had an eye on the group.

According to him, these groups always carry out provocations and state that every policy taken by the government is incorrect. “Always provoking and stating that every government policy is wrong. In fact, in principle, the government is open and responds to all the aspirations of the people,” he said.
