Jakarta –
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md urged the DPR to speed up the ratification Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT). Mahfud then brought up another bill that could be passed quickly.
“We waiting DPR so that it can be faster, because this has been discussed for 19 years, while some were only completed a week, that’s it. It has been 19 years so that there is a balance in responding to and discussing each of the draft laws,” said Mahfud at the ‘Human Rights March to Support the Acceleration of the PPRT Bill’ in the region. car free day (CFD), Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Central Jakarta, Sunday (12/2/2023).
Mahfud assessed that the discussion on the PPRT Bill took too long. He considered the passage of this bill like a debt that the government must pay before the period expires in 2024.
“So this is how the government’s support for the immediate passage of the PPRT Bill is because this has also become part of the Nawacita, meaning that for the government this is a debt that must be paid before 2024, but because this initiative came from the DPR, yes we waiting from Parliament,” he said.
Furthermore, Mahfud said that currently the government is still waiting for the DPR to discuss the PPRT Bill. Mahfud said the government was ready if the DPR would discuss it.
“For the government itself, the procedure is for the DPR send no later than 2 months, we have returned it at most, some have even only agreed for two days, this will probably be passed soon in the near future, this will only take a short time if the government is working on the DPR,” he said.
It is known that Mahfud Md attended a human rights march or parade in the CFD area in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta. The walk was in order to support the acceleration of the ratification of the PPRT Bill.
Apart from Mahfud, the hiking trail was joined by the ranks of the Ministry of Empowerment and Protection of Women and Children (KemenPPPA), Chair of the National Commission on Human Rights Atnike Nova Sigiro and his staff.
Atnike said the march was a form of support for workers’ rights. Atnike hopes that workers’ rights can be protected immediately.
“This is a symbolic form of our support, that the Indonesian people want legal certainty for domestic workers, so that they are protected from exploitation and get their rights as workers,” Atnike said in his remarks.
“Let’s go together as a form of our support,” he continued.
