Mahfud MD vs Gibran Rakabuming Raka: Vice Presidential Debate Tactics Revealed

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Vice presidential candidate (cawapres) number 3 Mahfud MD stated that he could look for many difficult terms that ordinary people don’t know to ask in the presidential-cawapres debate, as did his rival vice presidential candidate number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

“If it’s just difficult terms, I can look up 1000 difficult terms a day that other people don’t know. “If you just want to look for that, yes,” Mahfud after attending a greeting event with Perindo in Kraksaan, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Sunday (25/12/2023) last week, as quoted from Compass TV.

Mahfud MD said this in response to Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s tactic of using unfamiliar terms in the vice presidential debate on Friday (22/12/2023) last week.

Mahfud suggested that the questions asked in the vice presidential debate should be things that are substantial and not just using foreign or unfamiliar terms.

As previously reported, in the second debate, Gibran asked Mahfud MD about the process of drafting regulations regarding carbon capture storage technology.

Carbon capture storage or carbon capture and storage is a process of capturing and storing carbon dioxide during the preparation of fossil fuels or from waste from combustion. Carbon capture and storage activities are carried out at power plants using fossil fuels or coal as well as natural gas processing processes.

Mahfud then explained the process of drafting regulations or draft laws in general and in general, starting from academic studies, drafting draft laws, discussions between the government and the DPR, the revision process until ratification.

He also then explained that the topic of questions asked by Gibran should be presented in the 4th debate which discussed environmental issues.

On the same occasion, Gibran asked vice presidential candidate number 1 about the State of Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) and raising Indonesia’s ranking.

Muhaimin then asked Gibran to explain SGIE which is related to the sharia economy and halal products. After that, Muhaimin then explained his argument regarding this question.
