Leader of the Al-Zaytun Islamic boarding school, Panji Gumilang withdrew the Rp 5 trillion lawsuit against the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md. How did Mahfud respond?
“We respect the use of legal rights for Panji Gumilang,” said Mahfud when contacted, Saturday (22/7/2023).
Mahfud said he appreciated the lawsuit and the revocation of the lawsuit by Panji Gumilang. He conveyed that Panji Gumilang has the right to sue and withdraw the lawsuit because Indonesia is a country of laws.
“When we want to sue, we respect it and face it, when we want to withdraw the lawsuit, we also respect it. This is a rule of law country,” he said.
Panji Gumilang previously sued Mahfud Md at the Central Jakarta District Court. The civil lawsuit was filed with the classification of unlawful acts.
Seen detikcomThursday (20/7) from the Case Tracing Information System (SIPP) website of the Central Jakarta District Court, the lawsuit was registered with case number 445/Pdt.G/2023/PN Jkt.Pst.
Central Jakarta District Court Public Relations official Zulkifli Atjo confirmed the lawsuit. He said Panji Gumilang sued Mahfud immaterially for Rp 5 trillion.
“That’s true, but the material lawsuit is Rp. 5, the immaterial is Rp. 5 trillion,” said Zulkifli when contacted.
Lawsuit Withdrawn
The lawsuit was later withdrawn. Central Jakarta District Court Public Relations Officer, Zulkifli Atjo confirmed the revocation.
“A letter was submitted by Panji Gumilang’s attorney as of Friday. The contents of which withdrew the lawsuit against Mr. Mahfud Md,” said Zulkifli when asked for confirmation, Saturday (22/7/2023).
Zulkifli said that Panji did not write down the reason for the withdrawal of the lawsuit. He said the letter only explained if Panji withdrew the lawsuit.
“We don’t (know) about that, because the letter did not state a reason, it only stated a request to revoke the lawsuit case number 445/pdt.G/2023/PN.JKT PST,” he explained.
Zulkifli said that his party had issued a trial schedule for the suit. According to him, the decision about whether to continue the case will be determined by the panel of judges.
“We are waiting for the panel of judges on July 31, 2023. Because the parties were summoned on that day, a hearing will still be held to read out the revocation,” he said
