JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD emphasized that the government has no plans to reconcile with the High Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Habib Rizieq Shihab.
This is not without reason. Mahfud MD said that he had intended to have a dialogue with Habib Rizieq before, precisely when the FPI founder returned to Indonesia last November, until the reconciliation discourse emerged.
“Actually, the night before the MRS landed, on 9/11/2020 at 19, I invited the MRS Legal Team (Sugito and Ari), I invited them to arrange silaturrahim in a neutral place to have a dialogue with the MRS, to keep the country and the people together for the good of the people. and the people, “said Mahfud MD in his statement, Saturday (12/12/2020).

However, said Mahfud MD, the reconciliation requirements proposed by Habib Rizieq were deemed inappropriate. This made the government reluctant to initiate the reconciliation plan.
“But what is the answer? The first day he gave a loud speech, “Wants reconciliation on the condition that the government releases convicted terrorists and releases criminal suspects with certain names”. After all, the friendship has not asked for high conditions. So I emphasize that the government does not plan to reconcile with the MRS, “he said.
In a previous interview session, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) said that the government would still listen to FPI’s aspirations. For example, when Habib Rizieq returned, where the government did not prevent him from coming to various activities afterwards, according to FPI’s request.
