Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD answer criticism against him related to watching soap operas Love Bond during Emergency PPKM.
According to Mahfud, the criticisms conveyed by a number of parties indicate that democracy in Indonesia is running. He said the criticism did not violate the law.
“All criticism and support are good. Thank you for all the criticism and support for my tweet. That means democracy is running. Some have views, some criticize, some support, and some are silent. No one violates the law,” Mahfud said in his statement, Saturday (17/7).
He said there was a message he wanted to convey through a tweet on Twitter about the soap opera Ikatan Cinta. In his tweet, Mahfud previously mentioned the provisions of the criminal law related to the soap opera scene.
“So that in a public space that is watched by many people, the law is understood according to its field. There are fundamental differences between criminal law, civil law, and administrative law. If this is not understood, it will be chaotic, especially if it is demonstrated as an action by the authorities,” he said
Furthermore, Mahfud added that the last few days he had been working and chairing a number of meetings.
Finally, he said, he chaired a cross-ministerial/institutional meeting to discuss media strategy and security for the G20 Presidency which will take place in 2022.
“There’s still Covid-19, so we’re starting to discuss all the scenarios now,” he said.
Previously, Mahfud admitted that he had the opportunity to watch the soap opera Ikatan Cinta during Emergency PPKM in Java-Bali
Mahfud conveyed this through his personal Twitter account, @mohmahfudmd, Thursday (15/7) night. Mahfud also touched on the content of the story of the Love Association with the provisions of criminal law in Indonesia.
“PPKM gave me the opportunity to watch the soap opera series Ikatan Cinta. It’s also fun, even though it’s a bit messed up,” tweeted Mahfud.
However, Mahfud criticized the legal logic used by the writer of the soap opera story. He questions Sarah’s detention in Roy’s murder case.
According to Mahfud, the storyline is not in accordance with the provisions of the applicable criminal law.
