Mahfud MD said the main reason the government refuses to reconcile with the FPI’s Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab this is because the conditions are too high, one of which is the request for the release of terrorist convict Abu Bakar Baasyir and other convicts.
Mahfud said the decision was made after seeing Rizieq’s speech just a few days after arriving in Indonesia, in mid-November.

Mahfud admitted that he had invited members of Rizieq Shihab’s legal team, namely Sugito Atmo Prawiro and Ari Yusuf Amir on Monday, November 9, 2020 or the day before Rizieq arrived in Indonesia, to arrange a plan for dialogue with the FPI leader.

On a different occasion, Mahfud had previously emphasized that the current government had no interest in meeting or special matters that had to be discussed with Rizieq.
“What is the urgency now to talk. What do you want to talk about? What do you want to reconcile? What is the reconciliation? You don’t know the urgency,” Mahfud said as quoted from a broadcast on the Beritasatu Youtube account, Friday (11/12) night.
Previously, Rizieq had indeed asked the government to release the ulama and community leaders who, according to him, had been criminalized by the regime.
The move was said to be one of the conditions for reconciliation that Rizieq offered to the government so that the criminalization of ulama and community leaders would not happen again.
