Panaji: Maharashtra emerged overall champions at the 37th National Games held in Goa. They won the Raja Bhalindra Trophy for the overall champions.
For the first time since 1994, Maharashtra have become National Games champions. She won 228 medals including 80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze.
Services’ unbeaten run since the 2007 Guwahati Games ended. Services came second with 66 gold, 27 silver and 33 bronze medals. Haryana is third.
She won 62 gold, 54 silver and 73 bronze medals. Madhya Pradesh finished fifth and Kerala fifth. Madhya Pradesh won 112 medals including 37 gold, 36 silver and 39 bronze. Kerala won a total of 87 medals. The achievement of Kerala players is 36 gold, 24 silver and 27 bronze. Goa finished ninth with 92 medals (27 gold). Karnataka’s swimmer Srihari Nataraja (eight gold, one silver and one bronze) emerged as the best male athlete. Odisha’s gymnasts Samyukta Prasen Kala and Pranathi Nayak (four gold and one silver) emerged as the best female athletes. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
