Mumbai. Ajit Pawar’s rebellion on Sunday has surprised everyone amidst the split in the Shiv Sena and the smooth running of the government in Maharashtra. He rebelled for the second time against his uncle and Nationalist Congress Party ‘NCP’ patron Sharad Pawar. Questions are being raised on this and perhaps the answer seems to be that Ajit Pawar’s unfulfilled political aspirations were slowly dying in the NCP. But the answer is also related to the politics of the future. The direct meaning of Ajit Pawar’s rebellion against Sharad Pawar is to help the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
If we look at the arithmetic of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra has 48 MPs, out of which BJP has 22 MPs, which is the maximum. After this Shiv Sena has 18 and NCP has 4 MPs. According to the Lok Sabha website, two seats have remained vacant. The BJP wants to improve its performance in 2019 and touch the figure of 350 on its own. So it not only needs to do well in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but also needs to increase its number of seats.
After the split of 18 MPs of Shiv Sena, now attack on NCP
Shiv Sena’s 18 MPs have already split. The NCP’s gain in next year’s general election was therefore a real possibility, but with MLAs like Ajit Pawar’s Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil and Dhananjay Munde joining the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government, the walkout Pawar’s NCP has also been divided.
BJP fulfilling Ajit Pawar’s political aspirations for gains in Lok Sabha
Ajit Pawar who is believed to have the support of 43 out of 53 NCP MLAs has been made the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is expected to claim to lead the ‘real’ NCP, as Eknath Shinde once claimed about the Shiv Sena. The breakup of the NCP, the aging leader and Ajit Pawar whose political aspirations are being fulfilled by the BJP only point in one direction and that is a better victory for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Prakash Javadekar has claimed that BJP alone will win 350 seats.
In early June, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and a leader from the state, Prakash Javadekar said, ‘People’s faith in PM Modi is our biggest strength and we firmly believe that BJP will get more than 350 seats and the National Democratic Alliance’ NDA ‘ will get more than 400 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The weakening of Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar will strengthen Brand Modi
There can be both the beginning and the end of changing perception in politics. During the Bhatta Parsaul land agitation in Uttar Pradesh in 2011, the otherwise successful Chief Minister Mayawati was seen to be against farmers. This perception cost him dearly in the next election in Uttar Pradesh in the western region, where a large section of farmers live.
Worrying about making BJP an image among farmers
More recently, regardless of the merits of the Farmers Bill, the year-long agitation by farmers at the borders of Delhi has started creating an impression that the BJP is anti-farmer.
