The tremor was at a shallow depth
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has rocked the northern Philippines. It was initially reported as magnitude 6.8.
So far, there are no reports of casualties or serious damage. A hospital and several buildings were damaged.
The earthquake occurred in the province of Abra on the largest island of the archipelago, Luzon. The quake was at a shallow depth and the local seismological office warned that there could be more damage.
The earthquake was also felt in the capital, Manila, where buildings swayed.
