Earthquake a magnitude of 7.3 is reported to shake the border Tajikistan and China on Thursday (23/2) morning.
Chinese state television station, CCTVreported that the earthquake occurred at around 08.37 local time.
There have been no reports of damage or other impacts from the earthquake.
However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8, lower than that reported by the Chinese government.
quoted AFPUSGS reported the quake was centered in Gorno-Badakhshan with a depth of 20.5 kilometers.
Goro-Badakhshan is a semi-autonomous region of Tajikistan which borders Afghanistan and China.
The USGS said a 5.5-magnitude aftershock rocked the area about 20 minutes after the first quake.
The area is reportedly sparsely populated and surrounded by the Pamir Mountains.
