Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake Hits Karatung Island, North Sulawesi – BMKG Reports No Tsunami Potential

Earthquake magnitude (M) 7.0 occurred on Karatung Island, North Sulawesi. The epicenter of the earthquake was at sea.

BMKG reported that the earthquake occurred Tuesday (9/1/2024), at 03.48 WIB. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 56 kilometers.

“85 km northwest of Karatung Island-Sulut,” wrote @infoBMKG.

The coordinates for the earthquake were recorded at 4.92 north latitude (N) and 126.33 east longitude (BT). Until now there is no information regarding the impact of the earthquake.

“There is no potential for a tsunami,” continued BMKG.
