Earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.1 occurred in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 19 kilometers.
BMKG reported that the earthquake occurred Sunday (23/4/2023), at 04.17 WIB.
“The epicenter was in the sea 177 km northwest of the Mentawai Islands,” wrote @infoBMKG.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at 0.94 south latitude (LS) and 98.38 east longitude (BT). It is not yet known whether there was any damage caused by this earthquake.
“Feeled (MMI) IV Siberut, III Padang, III Payakumbuh, III West Pasaman,” wrote the BMKG.
Scale II MMI means that the vibration is felt by several people, light objects that are hung are swaying. Meanwhile, on the MMI III scale, the vibration is felt in the house. Feel the vibration as if there is a truck passing.
Then scale IV means that the earthquake was felt by many people in the house, outside by several people, pottery broke, windows/doors rattled and walls rattled.
“No potential for a tsunami,” he explained.
