Six external experts must make the magistrates’ exam more watertight.
The discovery of the fraud in which a member of the examination committee passed on the questions for the magistrates’ exam in advance to the son of a friendly magistrate couple has sent a shock wave through the judicial world. To restore confidence, the High Council of Justice (HRJ) has now appointed a six-member anti-fraud expert group. They must make suggestions to reduce the risk of fraud.
The exam, which took place in January, was annulled after the fraud was discovered. There will therefore be a new exam on April 20. The candidate magistrates who had already passed expressed their indignation in a letter to the HRJ that, due to the annulment of the exam, they became victims of fraud that they had nothing to do with.
According to the HRJ, there was no other solution than to reorganize the exam. “We cannot rule out that the exam assignment was leaked more widely than just to that one person. We want there to be no doubt about the competences of future magistrates.”(me)
