Magical Zen Festival: Connecting Alternative and Classical Medicine with Well-Known Speakers

BVNext Sunday, August 20, a lot of BV’s will come to Brasschaat for the ‘Magical Zen Festival’. A festival to connect alternative and classical medicine. Veerle Dobbelaere (56), Geena Lisa Peeters (51), Charlotte De Groof (36), Tom Helsen (47) and Saartje Vandendriessche (48), among others, will speak about their own experiences.

The founder of the festival, Nathalie van Ounsen, wanted to organize a festival about complementary care because she felt there was a lot of demand for it. “The goal of the ‘Magical Zen Festival’ is actually to let classical medicine go hand in hand with ‘alternative medicine’, or ‘complementary care’”, says Nathalie. “We would like the doctors to also consider a coach or a therapist when they want to help a patient.”

Many well-known people will speak at the festival this Sunday. Ambassador Veerle Dobbelaere even gives an exclusive workshop there. “I feel there is a need, there is a real demand for such a festival,” says Nathalie. “Veerle was already there last year and when I called her she was immediately convinced. The original plan was to organize a women’s festival, but Veerle indicated that men also needed it. The first edition was sold out in no time.” ‘De Buurtpolitie’ actress Charlotte De Groof was also completely impressed after the first edition. “She told me she was unbelievable what happened there, it felt like coming home to her.”

“I didn’t have to convince anyone”

“It’s a festival and music is part of a festival. But music can also help therapeutically. Tom Helsen, for example, has had a very serious depression. He really uses his music as therapy,” says Nathalie. The other speakers such as Geena Lisa Peeters, Charlotte De Groof, Saartje Vandendriessche and Veerle Dobbelaere are also coaches by profession and wanted to contribute by speaking at the festival. “I didn’t have to convince anyone, when I spoke to them they were completely on board and they also said ‘we need this’”, says Nathalie.

The ‘Magical Zen Festival’ will take place on Sunday 20 August in Brasschaat.
