The Meteorological Institute writes that there had been large eruptions on the sun, which in turn led to a strong solar storm reaching the earth late last Friday.
It has been described as the strongest solar storm in more than 20 years and has led to the northern lights being seen around the world.
Beautiful Northern Lights pictures from Lapland are not particularly unusual, but for the sky to be just as beautiful in southern Finland happens all the more rarely.

“The northern lights exploded all over the sky, the colors were everything from green to small to red shades. It was a fantastic experience to see the sky become covered with so many shades of purple that I have never seen before in this way,” she writes to HBL.

Claus von Köhler also sent in pictures to HBL of the northern lights that he photographed in the sky over the Åboland archipelago.
Meteorological Institute also writes that there is a high probability of seeing more northern lights during the night between Saturday and Sunday. It looks somewhat darker for the night between Sunday and Monday.
