Magical Hungary is the country’s most exciting nature photography competition and professional platform, its mission is to open a window to the natural treasures of the country’s national parks through nature photos, thereby drawing attention to the importance of nature conservation. The Exhibition can be viewed in the K16 Contemporary Gallery in Vác from September 17 to October 17, 2023.
Magical Hungary has entered its 14th year, and since the first announced competition, thousands of nature photographers have put themselves to the test, with more than 40,000 photos over the years.
VM is one of the most exciting and prestigious photo contests in the country, where photographers compete with each other for nine months, are outside and take photos in nature at all times of the year, and then present the best of their work to the professional jury in order to be at the top of the photography ranking list. In the 2022 application season, the professional jury boasted the participation of the following high-level professionals: photographer Éva Keleti, nature photographers Bence Máté, Imre Potyó and László Suhadya, jr. Cameraman Tamás Vitray, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Magyarország Magazin, nature conservationist and nature photographer Attila Szilágyi and nature filmmaker Zsolt Marcell Tóth.
With the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture, which provides professional supervision of the national park directorates, the VM established the Hungarian Nature Photographer Grand Prize in 2021. The award recognizes that the creator has earned the place of the best in the competition with a year of hard work and continuous proof of his talent. A beautiful photo album and a large-scale exhibition are made from the most beautiful pictures of each season, which the general public can admire at the country’s prestigious exhibition venues.
The exhibition made from the pictures of the 2022 tender season presents 209 pictures by 70 artists. At the exhibition, the portfolio of the first three winners of the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prix is given a special place, but the visitor can also see the pictures of the winners of the various competition categories. The exhibition also presents a representative selection of the magical natural world of our country’s ten national parks: beautiful landscapes, peaceful and tense moments of animals’ daily lives, and artistic depictions of a world invisible to the naked eye.
