DISTRICT LEAGUE
Magic band?
There was something magical about the story and it suited the Halloween period: during the break in the match between SF Eintracht Freiburg and newly promoted Gundelfingen / Wildtal, SFE forward Jakob Berkhli borrowed a headband from two fans; before him she had tried to tame his hair with a noose. With the borrowed – maybe magical? – Utensile became the winner of the match because he scored both goals in the second half by winning 2-0 at home. At 2-0, he benefited from an accident by visiting goalkeeper Oliver Niegot, who hit a teammate while throwing the ball. Berkhli took advantage of the rebound for the 2-0. “We had luck on our side,” said coach Wolf Haller. His tactic of “starting the opponent early and sprinting” ultimately worked. “He was a little wild and went back and forth,” he described an intense match in which Gundelfinger’s team repeatedly wrestled with the generous line of referee Oliver Heidenreich. Haller is hoping for a boost for his next league assignments. Gundelfingen / Wildtal took revenge for yesterday’s league defeat on Tuesday: in the quarter-finals of the district cup, the promoted team defeated SF Eintracht 3-2.
