Magdeburg – “It’s a shame that Christian Beck’s contract is not being extended,” says Ines Möhring. She has been with FCM since the 1970s, grew up with a self-knitted scarf and with legends such as Jürgen Sparwasser, Jürgen Pommerenke, Axel Tyll and Joachim Streich. She also sees the 1.96-meter-tall striker in this squad, who has stood for one thing at the club since the beginning of 2013: goals, goals, goals. There are 148 so far. “This makes him the third most successful goalscorer from FCM”, Ines Möhring quotes the statistics.
A man for goals and emotions
This number can be found in the neon advertising that she designed regularly and according to the occasion at the cult cinema on Olvenstedter Straße and which she has now dedicated to Christian Beck. “With his goals he contributed to the promotion successes and sparked great enthusiasm for the club in the region,” says the cinema operator, who, like the FCM, cannot receive any visitors due to the corona.
Christian Beck is thrilled, as he reports after Tuesday training. “I’m just happy that I get such appreciation and I’m proud to be part of this family,” said the 33-year-old when asked.
Come by for your own greeting
After promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2018, Möhring and Beck’s paths crossed. On the occasion of the great triumph, the film “Mission Profifußball” was shown in the presence of the team in the Oli cinema. The makers Kevin Köhler and Marco Schulze have been with the club since 2012 and “show in the documentary how the FCM has developed: from games on a village square where the audience sat on crates of beer to duels in the big arenas,” says Ines Möhring.
Therefore she plans – should there be no farewell game for Christian Beck (nickname “Beckus”) – to show the film again, in which the Erfurt player plays a major role. “As soon as it is possible to receive guests again,” as she says. Until then, FCM fans are invited to come to the cinema and express their sympathy for Christian Beck with a snapshot, “also with their own greeting message in the form of a banner or self-designed poster,” says Ines Möhring.
Action is a career first
One of the many who were happy about the neon sign and captured it in a picture is Steffen Friedrich. He happened to drive past the cinema and turned around spontaneously to take a photo, according to the supporter of the blue-whites. “The creative campaign is great, because unfortunately the fans cannot say goodbye to Christian Beck at the game in the stadium,” said the Magdeburg native.
Christian Beck has gained a lot in his career. Among other things, the striker was third division champion 2017/18, top scorer 2016/17 as well as two goalscorer of the month of the ARD Sportschau. He also scored the first goal in FCM history in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, a neon advertisement has never been dedicated to him.
